How Many Legs does Herman Cain's 9-9-9 Tax Plan Have?

Cain states his 9-9-9 plan would replace the current IRS tax system with a flat 9 percent income tax, 9 percent corporate tax and 9 percent consumption tax.

Various news reports have stated Herman Cain’s new found popularity is due to the simplicity of his 9-9-9 tax plan and my question is how many people actually know what his 9-9-9 plan is? If they did they wouldn’t like it. A 9% National Sales Tax is bad for 50% at least, of the households in this country. A 9% income tax added to the National Sales Tax = 18%. That’s higher than they’re paying now. This form of taxation is extremely harmful to the poor and middle class in this county and it’s not the end of the story. There is nothing simple, or fair, about Cain’s 9-9-9 Tax Plan.

Reminds me of a story I once heard about President Lincoln.

Lincoln was in court and asked his opponent,

“How many legs does a dog have?”

“Why, four of course”, was the answer his opponent provided.

“And how many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg?” Lincoln asked.

“Why, five, of course” was the answer from his opponent.

“No, the answer is still four”, said Lincoln. “Calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it a leg”.

Calling Cain’s tax plan fair and simple does not make it either fair or simple.

Herman Cain is first and foremost a former CEO and as a former CEO his first and primary concern will always be the corporate bottom line – what can be done to improve corporate profits. His interest in the poor and middle-class can be summed up in one sentence “Don’t blame Wall Street, don’t blame the big banks, if you don’t have a job and you’re not rich, blame yourself!”

Lincoln himself vacillated on tax rates and that, mostly because of the huge financial burden created by fighting the civil war. But he was not a supporter of vast expansions of government.

While I cannot edify anyone about the intricacies of Cains tax plan, I will ardently maintain that it is not, nor has it ever been, government's role to make sure that everyone gets their "fair share," as this current administration seems intent on doing.

You, my friend, seem to have bought into all of the rhetoric intended to vilify corporations and cast aspersions on those who create wealth (and jobs). You make outlandish claims at the end of your article based on what - Cain was a CEO? Can you tell me how many people who have ever been President of our country could really identify with the average middle class person? It isn't a trick questions...it's none.

Nine, Nine Nine sounds just like Nein, Nein, Nein which, in

German, means NO, NO, NO. Come to think about it, it

means the same thing in English--NO, NO, NO. Are you

rich enough to benefit from Cain's plan?

This 999 plan is so draconian, I can't imagine anyone but the super-rich endorsing it. The fact is that those who would be hurt by it the most are often the ones supporting it the loudest.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how Conservatives have been brainwashed into thinking that only they understand business, and Libs hate business.

I've also been thinking about how the most admired business people (think Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Larry Paige, Sergey Brin, James Sinegal, Elon Musk, Eric Schmidt, Craig Newmark and Mark Zuckerberg are all unashamedly Liberal, and they have managed companies that practice some very liberal principles. Some of these guys have built some of the most successful companies in the history of our planet.

Somebody's been lied to.

Why so many of the 99 per centers are right-wingers is a good

question. I don't think they could come up with a rational an-

swer. They're just 'wannabe' one-percenters. Watch and read

the comments--how many of these people supporting Cain's

plan do you think would benefit from the nine-nine-nine plan?

Yeah, it's like the tired line being passed around by Conservatives that 47% of Americans don't pay Federal taxes. Every single person who has brought this up to me personally thought that they themselves paid too much in taxes, but in reality they were part of the 47%. They just didn't know it!

My theory is that these people have been brainwashed into thinking their hard-earned tax dollars are being wasted by undeserving people who aren't like them. That's why they are so opposed to taxes. What they don't realize is that in most cases they are the ones that the tax money is being spent on.
